Some steps that can be taken at home to improve the affects of dwarfism:
People with dwarfism can most of the time live an average life and do things such as: go to school, get a job, marry, raise children, and do many of the same things as averaged sized people.
- Car seats. Use infant car seats that have good support for the neck and back, as well as the shoulders. It is best to use a rear facing car seat to the highest weight and height limits possible.
- Infant carriers and play equipment. Make sure that all carriers and play things provide secure support for the neck and the back does not encourage the C shaped curve. These include, but are not limited to swings, umbrella strollers, carrying slings, jumper seats and backpack carrier.
- Adequate support. Make sure the child's neck and back are supported well when sitting down.
- Complications. Watch your child carefully for sleep anemia and ear infections.
- Posture. Promote good posture in all circumstances (especially sitting down) for the child to avoid a curved spine.
- Healthy diet. Start your child on a healthy diet to keep growth prevention away.
- Healthy activities. Encourage safe sports such as swimming or bicycling.
